In October 2023, I had the privilege of facilitating the LAB4GE training course in Budapest, Hungary—an inspiring international learning experience hosted by Anthropolis Egyesület. The training brought together youth workers, educators, social workers, and activists from across Europe to dive deep into the topic of gender equality and women’s empowerment through interactive learning, storytelling, and shared reflection.
The course was built around a clear and urgent mission: to empower participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to challenge gender stereotypes and promote more inclusive, equitable societies. Through a carefully designed programme of workshops, discussions, and creative sessions, we explored the many dimensions of gender in today’s world—uncovering hidden biases, sharing strategies for inclusion, and learning how to become more effective advocates and leaders.
Participants came from Hungary, the UK, Denmark, Italy, Spain, and Romania, each bringing rich personal and professional perspectives. This diversity turned every conversation into a cross-cultural learning moment. We looked at gender through the lens of education, youth work, entrepreneurship, media, and everyday life—recognizing both common patterns and country-specific challenges.
One of the highlights of the training was our Digital Storytelling Lab, where participants created short personal films using photographs and voiceovers. These stories were intimate, powerful, and deeply moving. They gave voice to lived experiences around gender, identity, and belonging—and offered a platform for stories that too often go unheard. Watching these digital stories together was one of the most emotional moments of the week.
Throughout the course, we also ran workshops on emotional intelligence, self-esteem, and social entrepreneurship—connecting inner growth with social action. We explored how gender impacts leadership and participation, and how women’s empowerment is crucial for sustainable development. Through a gender-sensitive approach, participants learned to design initiatives and workspaces that prioritize equity and inclusion.
In addition to individual growth, the training focused on collaboration. Through mentoring, group dialogue, and coaching, participants built action plans to bring back to their communities—ranging from local workshops and campaigns to long-term projects supporting women’s entrepreneurship and leadership.
The LAB4GE training left a lasting impact—not just in new knowledge, but in renewed commitment. Participants returned home not only with tools and resources but with the clarity that change begins with awareness, courage, and collective effort. And through the digital storytelling projects created during the course, their voices continue to echo—amplifying messages of equality, dignity, and hope.
